Indian actress Mithila Palkar was born on January 11, 1993. Mithila Palkar is well-known for her roles in the Netflix original series Little Things and the TV show Girl in the City. Her rendition of the “cup song” in Marathi propelled her to stardom in March 2016. Mithila Palkar is the recipient of multiple honours, including two Filmfare OTT Awards and a Filmfare Award in Marathi.

Palkar debuted as an actress in the Marathi-language short Majha Honeymoon in 2014. Katti Batti, starring Nikkhil Advani, was her maiden Bollywood movie.
Mithila Palkar Early Years
On January 11, 1993, Palkar was born into a Marathi household. Because of the difficulties of her daily travel, she and her sister eventually relocated to live in Dadar with her maternal grandparents after having resided in Vasai with her parents. Her grandfather first disapproved of her decision to act, and she hails from a line of non-actors. Her sister is a Los Angeles resident and has a PhD in neuroscience.

Palkar made his acting debut in an interschool theatre competition when he was in Class VII. Although she acknowledges that she is a “nerd,” she was always involved in drama, dance, and singing while attending IES’s Modern English School in Dadar. She studied physics in upper secondary school, but in order to work in theatre and film, she decided to study a Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) at MMK College, Bandra. Palkar’s first audition was with Quasar Padamsee of Quasar Theatre Productions (QTP) following her graduation in 2013.
Mithila Palkar did not win the part at the audition, but Quasar offered her a backstage position overseeing their theatre festival, Thespo. Prior to this, Palkar received training in Kathak, Hindustani classical music (from Marathi singer Varsha Bhave), and acting at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in Los Angeles.
Mithila Palkar Career
In the 2014 Marathi short Majha Honeymoon, which screened at the 16th Mumbai International Film Festival, Palkar made her acting debut. Mithila Palkar was successful in her audition for the character of Imran Khan’s sister in Katti Batti in June 2014, marking her first break in the Indian film business. The movie didn’t perform well.

Meanwhile, Palkar received an audition request for Filter Copy’s new satirical YouTube series, News Darshan, from Dhruv Sehgal, whom she had met at Thespo, the annual theatre festival hosted by QTP. Mithila Palkar not only passed the audition, but she also went on to work on several YouTube videos for Pocket Aces and her first web series, Girl in the City, for Bindass in 2016 . One of these is a successful web series that she has been working on with Sehgal since 2017 called Little Things.
Penguin Random House has also published the series as a book. The second season of Little Things debuted on Netflix on October 5, 2018, after Netflix acquired the franchise in 2018. On November 9, 2019, Little Things’ third season debuted. On October 15, 2021, Little Things’ fourth and last season debuted.
Mithila Palkar performed with the theatrical company Aarambh in two productions in 2017: the children’s musical Tunni Ki Kahani and the Hindustani musical Aaj Rang Hai. Palkar debuted in Marathi cinema later that year in the movie Muramba, costarring Amey Wagh. Palkar made her acting debut in 2018 in the Hindi film Karwaan, costarring with Kriti Kharbanda, Dulquer Salmaan, and Irrfan Khan. The movie came out on August 3, 2018.
Mithila Palkar starred in Sachin Yardi’s Netflix original movie Chopsticks in 2019. Mithila Palkar portrayed an insecure young woman in the movie named Nirma (named after the brand of washing powder), whose life turns around when she meets Abhay Deol’s character, a con artist. Later, she costarred with Dhruv Sehgal in Taco Bell’s #TheCheesyPull web promo for their new product, Quesalupa, a cheese-filled hybrid of a chalupa and quesadilla. Palkar’s next venture was the Renuka Shahane-directed Netflix movie Tribhanga, which starred Tanvi Azmi and Kajol. Filming for the movie started in October 2019.

Palkar’s rendition of the “cup song”—which was influenced by Anna Kendrick’s cup song from Pitch Perfect—led to her sudden rise to fame in March 2016. Mithila Palkar sang the cup song version of the well-known Marathi song Hi Chal Turu Turu, which was originally sung by Jaywant Kulkarni, in the video. With over 6 million views on YouTube, Mithila’s cup song became extremely popular. When she attempted to play “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” in her previous rendition of the cup song, it garnered over 22,000 views. Later, in collaboration with Bharatiya Digital Party (BhaDiPa), she sang a song titled “Maharashtra Desha”, which was uploaded on YouTube on May 1, 2016, the day of Maharashtra Day.

Palkar has provided support to brands including Zomato, Tata Tea, and Maggi. In February 2018, Forbes India included Palkar in their Forbes 30 Under 30 list of rising stars.
