Actress Mita Vashisht was born in India on November 2, 1967 . Mita Vashisht is well-known for her roles she has portrayed in theater, film, and television. The sci-fi television series Space City Sigma (1989–1991), Pachpan Khambe Laal Deewarein, Swabhimaan, Alaan (Kirdaar), Trishna in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, and Jethi Maa in Kaala Teeka are among her most well-known performances. Mita Vashisht has worked with a diverse range of filmmakers and movie types.

Mita Vashisht Childhood

On November 2, 1967 in Pune, Maharashtra, India, Mita Vashisht was born into a family consisting of Meenakshi Mehta (née) Vashisht, an Indian classical singer and instructor, and Captain Rajeshwar Dutt Vashisht, a retired colonel from the Indian Army.

Mita Vashisht completed her post-graduate studies in literature at Punjab University in Chandigarh after graduating from the National School of Drama in Delhi in 1987. Vashisht has served as a visiting faculty member at many Indian design, film, and theater colleges, including the NIFT (Delhi), FTII (Pune), NSD (Delhi), and NID (Ahmedabad), for a number of years (1990–2010). She has also led theater workshops in Damascus and in the UK (London, Birmingham, Leicester). She uses theater approaches to instruct pupils in acting, film direction, and fashion design. Anup Singh, a filmmaker, is her husband.

Mita Vashisht Career

Vashisht has portrayed the lead characters in successful high budget Bollywood productions as well as in middle-of-the-road films (most notably Govind Nihalani’s films) and avant-garde films (most notably those directed by Kumar Shahani and Mani Kaul). She has also directed and performed in plays. She creates her scripts and conducts research. She has been touring India since 2004 with her solo performance, Lal Ded, which is based on the life of the medieval Kashmiri mystic of the same name in both Hindi and English.

In addition to creating a television serial, Vashisht is the author and producer of three short films. The film The Name of a River was a co-production between Bangladesh, NFDC (India), and BFI (London), of which she served as executive producer.

Vashisht founded Mandala, a venue for artistic partnerships, research, and teaching, in June 2001. Its objectives were to establish a new artistic movement, elevate and distinguish performing arts in society, and promote artistic cooperation. But her first assignment with Mandala took an odd turn. She became fully involved in the cause of self-empowerment and rehabilitation of trafficked minors for four years after leading a chance theatrical workshop with trafficked minors in a Mumbai remand facility. In her capacity as Mandala’s creative director, she developed the theater arts module, or Mandala TAM, a training program and approach rooted in the performing arts that has shown to be incredibly effective in promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and intellectual transformation of trafficked children.[Reference required]

Mita Vashisht was chosen by the state of Haryana to serve as the Governing Council of Haryana Film and Entertainment Chairperson in 2023.
