
Actress and model Kaushalya “Kitu” Gidwani was born in India on October 22, 1967. She has acted in a number of Indian television series and films.

Kitu gained recognition for her performance in Swabhimaan as Svetlana. Afterwards, she joined with Shaktimaan and portrayed “Geeta Vishwas,” a news channel reporter who is a stickler for the facts.
After a few episodes, she left the show, and she went on to become well-known after the 1986 Doordarshan TV series Air Hostess. Kitu Gidwani also won praise from critics for her performances in the films Dance of the Wind (1997), Deepa Mehta’s Earth (1998), Govind Nihalani’s Rukhmavati Ki Haveli (1991), and Abhay and Deham (2001) starring Kamal Haasan.

Mumbai is where Gidwani was born. Following the partition, her parents, who are Sindhis, left Pakistan. They were housed at Worli’s refugee camp. Her brother is present.
Kitu Gidwani attended Mumbai’s Fort Convent School to study. She holds an M.A. in French and a Commerce degree. Her acting career began with French plays. She soon began performing in English plays under Janak Toprani’s direction. She performed in a few TV series before starring as a Brazilian girl in the French film Black (1987), in which she dared to be nude, a rarity at the time.

Gidwani debuted on television in 1984 with the TV soap opera Trishna. She went on to have several notable roles in TV serials such as Swabhimaan, Air Hostess, and Junoon in the 1980s and 1990s. Following her bed kissing scene with actor Tom Alter in Junoon, she attracted a lot of attention. She performed in four serials simultaneously in 1997: Saahil, Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum, Junoon, and Swabhimaan. She most recently starred in the multi-star Hindi serials Kulvadhu and Kaashish.

Kitu Gidwani portrayed Pallavi, a Hindustani classical singer who lost her mother and guru, in the 1997 film Dance of the Wind. Pallavi fights to regain her voice. At the Three Continents Festival in Nantes, she was awarded Best Actress for the role. She portrayed Lajma, a middle-aged Pakistani woman, in Pankaj Butalia’s Shadows in the Dark. Kitu Gidwani had minor appearances in the 2010 films Student of the Year, Dhobi Ghat, and Fashion.
Kitu Gidwani launched the Wills Sport Lifestyle brand of clothing in 2001 in collaboration with Wills Lifestyle, an ITC Limited clothing chain. She also performed in Darshan Jariwala’s drama, Your Place or Mine, in 2006. She also performed in a play called Sock ’em With Honey, in which she portrayed a traditional Pakistani Parsi woman whose daughter falls in love with a Jew, leading to her first international journey.
Honours
Gidwani was the 1997 Three Continents Festival winner in Nantes, France, for Best Actress. Her remarkable performance in the character of Pallavi in Dance of the Wind was acknowledged with this prize.
