It was in Hyderabad that Gauri met her husband, Hiten Tejwani, while filming a Breeze soap commercial. They later became friends while working on the teleseries Kutumb, where they also happened to be cast as the lead duo. Their connection on screen caused a romantic spark to ignite, and they soon began dating. They made the decision to tie the knot while portraying star-crossed lovers Karan and Nandini in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, another daily soap opera.
Following two years of romance, on April 29, 2004, they were married in accordance with Maharashtrian customs in a private ceremony held in the Sun-n-Sand Hotel in Pune.
