Amruta Khanvilkar Malhotra, often known as Khanvilkar, is an Indian actress and producer who was born on November 23, 1984. Her main roles are in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Amruta Khanvilkar is among the Marathi film industry’s highest-paid actresses.

Since she was a little child, Khanvilkar has dreamed of being a movie actor. In 2004, she participated in India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj. Mumbai Salsa (2007) marked her Hindi feature debut, and Golmaal (2006) marked her début in Marathi cinema. Commercial success came next with Saade Maade Teen (2007) and Phoonk (2008). 2010 saw her rise to fame thanks to the Lavani dance number “Wajale Ki Bara” from the Marathi movie Natarang. Her role in the much-lauded 2015 film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali brought her recognition and nominations for the Marathi Filmfare Awards and the Maharashtra State Film Awards.

On November 23, 1984 , Khanvilkar was born in Bombay (modern-day Mumbai) into a Marathi family. His parents were Ajit and Gauri Khanvilkar. Aditi, her younger sister, works as an air hostess. Her family moved to Pune in the wake of the 1993 Mumbai attacks , where she completed her education at Karnataka High School and Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce.

Initial efforts and film premiere (2004–2009)

In 2004, Khanvilkar started her career as a competitor on Zed Cine Star ki Khoj, one of the first reality shows on Indian television. She also co-starred with Amitabh Bhattacharjee in the Hindi short film Saanjh, which was presented by the Film and Television Institute of India and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film on Family Welfare that same year. This resulted in additional appearances in 2005 on the Hindi television series Time Bomb 9/11 and A.D.A.

Career advancement and recognition (2015–2021)

After a year-long hiatus, Khanvilkar released five albums in 2015. Baji, the first Marathi superhero movie, was her debut release. She portrayed the bold young woman who piques Shreyas Talpade’s interest. Amruta Khanvilkar was rated “impressive” by Koimoi.com’s Surabhi Redkar, who also said, “Nothing challenging in her role, but she does a fine job,”. Vikram Bhatt’s first Marathi film, Ek Doosrey Ke Liye, which had been postponed since 2013, was her next release. Amruta Khanvilkar next starred in the Marathi adaptation of the Bengali film Hemlock Society, Welcome Zindagi, a dark comedy about life and death. Amruta Khanvilkar played a self-reliant girl whose life is uncertain and who feels abandoned and deceived by society. Amruta Khanvilkar considers suicide, but things turn around for her when a boy enters her life. According to an assessment published in the Maharashtra Times, “She perfectly embodied the wisdom that comes from training from isolation.”

Amruta Khanvilkar then portrayed Manasi in Sachin Kundalkar’s Pondicherry in 2022, which was the first Marathi and one of the first Indian feature films to be shot entirely on a smartphone. Manasi was a downtrodden girl who never had the authority over her life decisions. Her second nomination for a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress came from the movie.
