With the hugely successful romantic thriller Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, Patel made her acting debut. For this role, she won the Zed Cine Award for Best Female Debut. Ameesha Patel is the granddaughter of lawyer-politician Barrister Rajni Patel, the former president of Mumbai’s Congress Pradesh Committee, and the sister of Ashmit Patel. Ameesha Patel was educated as a Bharatnatyam dancer from the age of five and was born in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
