With the hugely successful romantic thriller Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, Patel made her acting debut. For this role, she won the Zed Cine Award for Best Female Debut. Alongside Hrithik Roshan, she embarked on her first global tour, The Roshans: Hrithik Live in Concert (2001), which took her throughout India.
