Born on July 29, 1959, Sanjay Balraj Dutt is an Indian actor, singer, and producer who primarily works in Hindi cinema, but he also does occasional work in Kannada, Tamil, Punjabi, and Telugu. Over the course of a four-decade career, Dutt has acted in over 135 films and received numerous awards.

He’s a member of the Dutt clan; his parents are actor-politicians Sunil Dutt and Nargis. Father-directed Rocky (1981) marked Dutt’s acting debut. With the exception of the criminal thriller Naam (1986), a turning point in his career, a professional slump ensued. With roles in films like Thanedaar (1990), Saajan, Sadak (all 1991), Adharm (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Aatish (1994), Daag, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Vaastav: The Reality (all 1999), and Mission Kashmir (2000), he later made a name for himself as a prolific actor. He was named the Filmfare Award’s Best Actor for his widely praised role in Vaastav.

The most iconic character of Dutt’s career was that of Munna Bhai in Rajkumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai series (2003–2006), for which he received global acclaim and his greatest single commercial success to date. He received a five-year prison sentence. He only served out his five years in prison in 2016 because he was released on bail multiple times during his sentence. Renowned Hindi film stars Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt were Dutt’s parents. He was born in Bombay City, Bombay State, Republic of India. Dutt’s genealogy can be traced back to the Rawalpindi Division of West Punjab. He was born to a Muslim mother of Punjabi descent who converted to Hinduism upon marriage and a Punjabi Hindu father (Mohyal Brahmin).

Sanjay Dutt is a member of the Hussaini Brahmin community, which descended from Imam Hussain and claims to have fought in the Battle of Karbala. Because of the community’s ambiguous identification as half-Hindu and half-Muslim, it was susceptible during the 1947 Partition riots. He became a member of this community through his father.

Difficulties and growth into South Indian cinema (2016–present)

On September 29, 2016, Vidhu Vinod Chopra revealed that the third installment of the Munna Bhai series, which stars Dutt in the lead role, would start airing soon. But as of 2024, the movie’s production has still not started.

In Omung Kumar’s 2017 film Bhoomi, Dutt played the lead role. He acted in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 in 2018. In the biopic Sanju, which he starred in, he was released on June 29, 2018. Sanjay Dutt later starred and produced the film Prassthanam, which was released on September 20, 2019.

Dutt Individual Life

Dutt had a romantic relationship with Tina Munim, his first film co-star, in the early 1980s. Actress Richa Sharma was Dutt’s spouse after their breakup in 1987. In 1996, a brain tumour claimed her life. Trishala Dutt, the couple’s daughter, was born in 1988 and resides in the US with her maternal grandparents.

Dutt wed air hostess turned model Rhea Pillai on February 14, 1998, in his second marriage. 2008 saw the divorce become final. After two years of courting, Dutt married Manyata (born Dilnawaz Sheikh) at a Hindu wedding in Mumbai. The couple had initially registered in Goa in 2008. He became a father to a girl and a boy on October 21, 2010.

Religion

In the past, Mahesh Bhatt said that Dutt’s mother’s family was the source of the Qur’anic texts he wore around his neck. Dutt also frequently visited the home of his maternal uncle, who happened to be his Muslim cousin. “Because I have Muslim blood in my veins,” he said in response to the police questioning him during the 1992–1993 Mumbai riots regarding an assault rifle he admitted obtaining from Anees Ibrahim, Dawood Ibrahim’s brother.
