Born on October 16, 1982, Prithviraj Sukumaran is an Indian actor, director, producer, and playback singer who works mainly in Malayalam cinema. Prithviraj debuted as an actor in the popular 2002 movie Nandanam (2002). Following a slump in his career, he returned to the spotlight with the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year, Classmates (2006), and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor at the youngest age with Vaasthavam (2006). After that, he participated in backing singing with Puthiya Mukham (2009) and as a musician in the Tamil romantic comedy Mozhi (2007). In 2010, he won his second Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for the biographical film Celluloid and the medical drama Ayalum Njanum Thammil.

Prithviraj began working for August Cinema as a production assistant in 2010. Indian Rupee, which he co-produced and starred in, took home the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film as well as the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam in 2011. At Thiruvananthapuram, on October 16, 1982, Prithviraj Sukumaran was born to actors Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran. At the time, his family had made their home in Tamil Nadu, where he attended St. Joseph’s Boys School in Coonoor and Shrine Vailankanni Senior Secondary School in T. Nagar, Chennai.

At the NSS Public School, Perunthanni, he studied after his family relocated to Kerala. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in information technology at the University of Tasmania in Australia following his time in school. He went to Ranjith’s film director’s auditions during this time and was selected for the lead role in Nandanam. He first met Ranjith through film director Fazil. Career setbacks and debut (2002–2008)

Director Fazil had Prithviraj do a screen test for one of his projects in 2001. Fazil introduced him to filmmaker Ranjith, who was preparing his second film, Nandanam (2002), even though the movie never happened. Prithviraj passed the screen test and was chosen for the part. Prithviraj starred in his first movie, Nandanam, but it came out after Stop Violence and Nakshathrakkannulla Rajakumaran Avanundoru Rajakumari. After then, Prithviraj starred in movies helmed by Bhadran, Vinayan, Kamal, and Lohithadas. Reviews for his other two releases, Darvinte Parinamam and James & Alice, were not entirely favorable. Roshini Dinakar’s romance film My Story was his first movie of 2018, yet it was a box office flop. His following two releases were the crime drama Ranam by Nirmal Sahadev and the drama Koode by Anjali Menon. He would go on to star in other successful box office films in the ensuing years, including the comedy-drama Driving License (2019), Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020), Jana Gana Mana (2022), Kaduva (2022), and Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023). But at the box office, Brother’s Day, Kaapa, and Gold were a bust. He appeared in Blessy’s survival drama Aadujeevitham in 2024. Prithviraj was chosen for the project in 2008, sixteen years earlier. Both critically and commercially, Aadujeevitham was a hit film, and Prithviraj received praise for his portrayal. The comedy-drama Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, his second release, was likewise a big hit.

Dubbing
