Actor Khandkar Mohammad Adil Hussain (pronounced [ʕaːdɪl ɧuˈseːn]; born October 5, 1963) is well-known in India for his roles in a number of domestic and foreign motion pictures, including Life of Pi (2012) and The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012).

Adil Hussain Childhood And Schooling

Hussain was the youngest of seven children born on October 5, 1963, into an Assamese Muslim household in Goalpara, Assam, where his father was the high school headmaster. Traditionally, the Mughal Emperors had hired his forefathers as private instructors, or Khandkar. Hussain joined the mobile “Hengul Theater” in Assam after his return to India in 1994, and he stayed there for three years before relocating to Delhi. He trained under Swapan Bose at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry following Tyabji, and then he began training with Dilip Shankar in Delhi.

As an actor, he debuted to praise in Othello: A Play in Black and White (1999), which won the Edinburgh Fringe First prize, and then starred in another Roysten Abel-directed production, Goodbye Desdemona. From 2004 to 2007, he continued to serve as the creative director and trainer of the Society for Artists and Performers in Hampi. He was also a visiting faculty member at the Royal Conservatory of Performing Arts in The Hague. At his alma mater, the National School of Drama, he also serves as a visiting faculty member.

Adil Hussain co-starred with Soha Ali Khan in the historical drama Iti Srikanta in 2004, the year he made his Bengali cinema debut. He played the main character in the BBC World Service Trust-produced detective series Jasoos Vijay from 2002 to 2003.

Hussain, who was cast as Othello in the 1999 Edinburgh Film Festival, fell in love with Kristen Jain, who was playing Desdemona.
