In northeastern India, in the state of Bihar, Sharma was born. Her mother was a stay-at-home mom, and her father was in marketing. Sharma’s family hails from Sikar in Rajasthan, and it was her Rajasthani background that served as inspiration for some of her subsequent music industry endeavors. When she began singing at the age of seven, her family encouraged her to pursue a career in music; they would also make light of her resemblance to well-known playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan.

Sharma started her musical study at Pankaj Maharaj, a Kolkata-based musical school, with her father’s encouragement. She later enrolled in a music program at Chandigarh University, a place that has a long history of being connected to Indian music. She also performed as a playback vocalist at this period; other actors or musicians dubbed over the majority of her early work. She got such much great feedback from her live devotional hymn performances in Lucknow that she started making devotional recordings.

Following her academic pursuits, Sharma relocated to Mumbai in order to pursue her musical career. Tanishk Bagchi (of the group Tanishk-Vayu), a film music composer with vast experience in the Bollywood film industry, reached out to her in 2015.

Sharma was hired by him to perform a love song for a forthcoming movie. Indian actress Kangana Ranaut recorded the song Banno tera Swagger, which she later dubbed over for the love comedy Tanu Weds Manu: Returns (2015). The movie was a commercial and critical success, and Sharma’s contribution to writing a hit song for Tanu’s soundtrack resulted in a sharp rise in her profile.

Sharma has kept up his record-breaking streak and increased his playback work. In 2016, she took home several music accolades. Swati Sharma made history in 2017 as the first singer from India to perform at the Eiffel Tower.
