Indian actor, director, and producer Prashanth Shetty (born July 7, 1983), better known by his stage name Rishab Shetty, is involved in Kannada cinema. Rishab Shetty is well-known for directing and leading the critically acclaimed and financially successful movie Kantara. Among his many honors are two Karnataka State Film Awards, two Filmfare Awards, and a National Film Award.
Rishab Shetty Childhood
On July 7, 1983, Shetty was born into the Tulu Bunt family in the Kadri neighborhood of Mangaluru City, in the Dakshina Kannada region of Karnataka. After completing his education at Kundapura in the Karnataka district of Udupi, he enrolled in Vijaya College in Bengaluru to pursue a B.Com. In Kundapura, he performed in yakshagana performances to begin his theatrical career. He took an active part in plays while he was a student at Bengaluru. His efforts were valued, and his performances in these plays gave him the confidence to pursue acting as a career.
Rishab Shetty Career
Following graduation from college, Shetty had odd occupations peddling water cans, real estate, and hotel employment, all the while trying his luck in the film industry. He also obtained a diploma in film direction from Bangalore’s Government Film and TV Institute while he was employed. Rishab Shetty began his career in the film industry as an assistant director, spot boy, clap boy, and so forth. While working in the industry, he got to know Rakshit Shetty; they eventually became friends.

Rishab Shetty played a significant role in Tuglak (2012). After appearing in a minor role as a police officer in Pawan Kumar’s Lucia, he went on to play a significant part in Rakshit Shetty’s Ulidavaru Kandante. Then, in 2016, Ricky, which starred Rakshit Shetty and was his directorial debut, did not do well at the box office. He directed Kirik Party, the box office hit for the Kannada film industry, in the same year. Following Kirik Party, Shetty directed Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai, Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, and it won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film in addition to critical praise.
In the critically acclaimed 2019 film Bell Bottom, he made his leading acting debut. After Bell Bottom, Rishab Shetty’s biggest role was as Mangaluru-based mobster Hari in the 2021 film Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana. Critics praised Rishab Shetty and Raj B. Shetty’s performances in the film, which was a commercial and critical success.
After that, he made two brief cameos in 2022: Mishan Impossible, which was his Telugu feature debut, and Harikathe Alla Girikathe. In addition to serving as the film’s principal actor, Shetty worked with Hombale Films on the film Kantara. After garnering positive reviews, it was eventually dubbed into various languages after being initially published solely in Kannada. The second-highest grossing Kannada movie ever made globally is called Kantara. He received the IFFI Special Jury Award at the 54th IFFI in 2023.
