Sneha Khanwalkar was credited as the music director of Gangs of Wasseypur and received a nomination for the 58th Filmfare Awards in the Best Music Director category for both Parts 1 and 2. Only 28 years after Usha Khanna, she is the second woman to be nominated in this category.
Sneha Khanwalkar Childhood And Schooling
Sneha Khanwalkar was born and raised in Indore, where her mother’s side of the family was deeply involved in the Hindustani classical music Gwalior gharana, which she first learned to play as a youngster.
Sneha Khanwalkar completed art direction and animation classes while on her HSC break. After her family relocated to Mumbai in 2001, she was expected to enroll in an engineering institution. However, she chose to pursue a career in music direction after rediscovering her love of music as a child, having previously worked in animation and art direction.
Sneha Khanwalkar Career
Sneha Khanwalkar composed the music for the film The Hope (2004), which was a competitor at the German Internationales Filmfest Emden. She also wrote the title tune for Ruchi Narain’s film KAL – Yesterday and Tomorrow (2005), but her major break came when she wrote the music for Ram Gopal Varma’s film Go (2007) and was given the opportunity to write a song for Sarkar Raj (2008).

Sneha Khanwalkar traveled through rural North India, particularly Haryana, and attended the Raagini music festival while researching the music for the film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, for which she received praise in 2008. Ultimately, she composed a hit soundtrack that was adorned with Haryanvi musical influences.
She served as the music director for the well-known films Gangs of Wasseypur (Parts 1 & 2) directed by Anurag Kashyap. She received a nomination for Best Music Director at the 58th Filmfare Awards for her work.
