Jasbir Jassi Childhood

Bains was raised in a Jatt Sikh family alongside his two older sisters after being born in Dalia Mirjanpur village, Gurdaspur, Punjab, India, to Sikh parents Ajit Singh Bains and Prakash Kaur. A first-generation musician, he performed in the North Zone Cultural Centre and took part in musical dramas like “Sadha Bugdu Bulo”.

Jassi met his Gujarati kudi in 1989 while attending a National Integration Camp in Himachal Pradesh for young people from border districts. The girl was from Bhuj in Gujarat’s Kutch region. Later on, she got married to someone else, but in 1998, Jassi found her. That same year, Jassi was travelling to Gwalior with Sham Bhuteja of Rohtak when she became agitated and dejected. She suddenly burst into tears and said to Bhuteja, “Dil Le Gayee Kudi Gujarat Di.” It was after this line that he was inspired to write the song.

Music tracks
