Born on July 29, 1979, Taran Kaur Dhillon is an Indian rapper and hip-hop artist who also performs as a playback vocalist and actor in the Bollywood film business. Hard Kaur goes by her stage moniker Hard Kaur.
Hard Kaur Childhood
On July 29, 1979, Hard Kaur—then Taran Kaur Dhillon—was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, into a Punjabi Jatt Sikh family belonging to the Dhillon clan.[Reference required] Her mother owned a tiny beauty salon in the home where she was raised in Kanpur. A mob during the 1984 anti-Sikh rioting killed her father. Her brother was to stay with her paternal grandparents, who had urged her mother to leave. She then relocated to her maternal grandparents’ home in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, with her brother and mother, where they spent the following several years.[Reference required]

Her family relocated to Birmingham, England, in 1991 after her mother wedded a British national. There, she began working and learning in preparation to eventually own a beauty parlour in Smethwick. Hard Kaur, an immigrant from India, completed her education in the UK in the meantime. Hard Kaur became interested in hip-hop and began performing as a rapper.

2008 saw Kaur play at Live Earth India. 2007 saw the release of Supawoman, her debut solo album. Hard Kaur was a 2008 UK Asian Music Awards nominee for two categories: “Best Urban Act” and “Best Female Act. “Best Female Act” was her prize. Party Loud All Year: P.L.A.Y, Hard Kaur’s second album, was released in October of 2012. Ten of the songs on the album, which was co-produced by Sony Music, were written and composed by her. She released the hit song “Ek Glassy” in the UK and later rapped for the song “Paisa Phek (Move Your Body)” from Johnny Gaddaar, a film starring Sriram Raghavan. She has since sang in films including Prince, Singh Is Kinng, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Ugly Aur Pagli (“Talli”), and Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Hard Kaur worked on Coke Studio India in 2013 alongside Rajasthani traditional vocalist Bhanvari Devi and composer Ram Sampath.[Reference required] Katey, also known as Kathe, features a Rajasthani traditional song sung by Bhanvari Devi, dedicated to Lord Krishna (Saanwariyo), as well as a self-penned Rap song by Hard Kaur that shares her personal life story. She wrote the song “Karle Tu Voting” during election season to raise awareness of voting. “Goal Mar Goal Mar” is a song written by Hard Kaur specifically for the FIFA World Cup. Hard Kaur Differing Opinions
Hard Kaur is a citizen of India and was born and raised in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She currently resides in Birmingham, England, as an Indian national. Hard Kaur has criticised the Indian government, Hindu nationalists, the BJP party, the RSS, and current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on numerous occasions in videos, while also expressing her support for the Sikh-separatist Khalistan movement.
A First Information Report was filed against her in June 2019 due to remarks she made concerning Mohan Bhagwat and Yogi Adityanath. Her Twitter account was terminated in August 2019 when she shared a video of herself and supporters of Khalistan bashing Amit Shah and Narendra Modi.
In support of Kashmiri separatism in India, Kaur released a song and music video in 2019 following the Government of India’s repeal of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which revoked the state of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. In the video, Kaur identified as a “proud Khalistani.” In 2020, Kaur called Indians “naked, hungry, dirty, idiots, illiterate, uneducated mother****ers” in an Instagram video.
In a now-deleted video that Kaur posted to Twitter and Instagram, she denigrated Bollywood actresses, calling them’sleeping their way to the top’ and making fun of the victims of the Indian #MeToo movement who came forward to expose their abusers, who were primarily senior actors, producers, and film directors. She implied that these victims were lying, that they had requested it, and that they were well aware of Bollywood’s casting couch beforehand.
