Naezy Childhood

On August 10, 1993, in Kurla, Mumbai, India, Naved Shaikh was born. Farhin Raza is his mother, and Shahid Raza is his father. His ancestors are from Amravati, and he still has relations there. He was raised in the Ram Bachan Chawl tenement for the working class poor, which is situated in the Mumbai suburb of Kurla. His family is from the lower middle class.

His father was employed overseas, therefore his mother raised him as a problematic child primarily. Following an early run-in with the law, he focused his artistic talents on expressing his own and other people’s hardships. After completing his T.Y.BSC at Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Matunga, he created The Schizophrenics collective with his rapper friend Neykhil Naik, also known as NCube.

Naezy Career

In 2014, Naezy made his music video debut with a homemade video called “Aafat!” utilising an iPad.[6] Released in 2014, Naezy’s first single “Aafat!” is considered as the origin of the gully rap trend. In 2015, he collaborated with DIVINE on their breakthrough smash song, “Mere Gully Mein.” The song helped raise awareness of the Mumbai rap scene and ultimately paved the way for DIVINE and Naezy’s breakthrough.

A documentary about his life, named Bombay 70 (the 70 denoting Kurla West’s area code), was made on him after the song’s debut. Disha Rindani, an independent filmmaker, directed Bombay 70. In 2014, the documentary won the MAMI award for best short film.

Director Zoya Akhtar was drawn to their music and used it as inspiration to create Gully Boy, a film starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt that is about the Mumbai rap culture. The lifestyles of DIVINE and Naezy, who provided feedback for the movie’s rap portions, are somewhat modelled in the movie. For the movie, “Mere Gully Mein” was recreated. Singh’s character replaces Naezy’s in this rendition.

For the movie, Singh recorded Naezy’s verse again. He made history by being the first rapper to be featured on JioSaavn, an Indian music streaming service. Along with American rapper Nas, who also functioned as executive producer, he was featured on the song “NY se Mumbai” alongside DIVINE, Singh, and Nas. The song was made available as a promotional single just before the movie’s premiere.

In order to raise awareness among young people, Naezy has stated that he wants to make “conscious hip-hop” music, which frequently touches on sociopolitical themes. Azaad Hu Mein, “Tragedy Mein Comedy,” and “Haq Hai” are a few of his songs that address politics and problems that the average person encounters.

Naezy quit the underground rap scene in 2018 for a number of reasons, one of which was that he had trouble telling his family about his rapper career. He took this break in order to escape the demands of rising in popularity. But the break let him discover how much he loved rap music. With his new single “Aafat Wapas,” a follow-up to his debut hit “Aafat,” he made a comeback to the music world in 2019. Happy Mandal, with whom he has previously collaborated, took the film with an iPhone XS Max. His six-song first album “Maghreb” is now available for download.
