Born on June 17, 1976, Sona Mohapatra is an Indian singer, songwriter, and music composer. Apart from her own tracks, Mohapatra has also done remixes of songs by INXS (with “Afterglow”) and David Bowie (with “Let’s Dance”). The latter song has been particularly popular.

Sona received her BTech in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar. She also graduated with a marketing and systems MBA from the Symbiosis Centre for Management & HRD in Pune. Mohapatra is wed to Bollywood music director and song composer Ram Sampath. When she was still employed with Marico as a brand manager in 2002, she had her first encounter with him. Director Ram Madhvani, who Sampath was working with for Let’s Talk (2002), introduced them; they got married in 2005. Subsequently, Ram gained widespread recognition for his inventive soundtrack for the films Delhi Belly (2011), Satyamev Jayate (2012), and Talaash (2012). Sona Mohapatra lives in Mumbai, where she co-owns OmGrown Music, a music production company, with Sampath. They also have their own studios there.
Sona Mohapatra Disputes
Sona Mohapatra made accusations of sexual misconduct against Kailash Kher and Anu Malik in October 2018. Following her outburst against Salman Khan for persistently making fun of Priyanka Chopra for leaving Bharat, Mohapatra has got death threats.
Documentary Mohapatra produced a documentary called Shut Up Sona, which was based on her life and took home several honours at various film festivals.
